Growing digital user numbers

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the UK's leading gardening charity, needed to improve the customer experience of their hugely popular online plant finder tools.

We provided them with best practice interface designs and better knowledge of their customers to make this happen.

The challenge

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) offers an extremely popular plant selector tool, allowing site visitors to look for specific plants based on precise situations of their gardens (soil type, sunlight etc.). We were commissioned to redesign the complex web application, with the objectives being to:

  • Ensure the tool reached a wider target audience and also catered for a broad number of different customer segments
  • Gather user requirements for the plant selector tool to determine which features would work best for its users
  • Provide a user-friendly interface to help people buy a plant and make the right choice
  • Create digital platforms that make the organisation's employees and volunteers proud of what they do

Impact & results

Since go-live, visits to the plant selector have increased by 125% and continue to rise. The number of return visits are also up by a massive 161%.

Internal stakeholders now see their content exhibited on a site that they're proud of and are apparently telling everyone (including the media) about it!

Webcredible developed a highly creative research approach which gave us valuable insights into user needs. The success of this project has converted many of our key stakeholders to user-centred design.

Our approach

The project followed a customer experience design process, starting with contextual in-depth research.

Following this, and working collaboratively with the RHS, we went through a full user experience design process, creating a full set of wireframes for the online application. We thoroughly tested & evaluated the wireframe designs with users before handing these over to be built.
